Homeless across Tamil Nadu to be given houses
The homeless in Tamil Nadu will soon have a roof above their heads as the state is mulling providing them permanent houses.
More than 32,000 homeless in seven districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Nagercoil, and Namakkal have been identified.
The survey was undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) with help of local municipal corporations. In Chennai alone, the team identified more than 2,000 homeless families. Earlier last year, officials had announced that they would provide all enumerated families houses at Perumbakkam, Thiruvottiyur or tenements in Moolakothalam by April 2019.
The state government proposal comes on the back of the Centre sanctioning 7,68,938 houses in 719 locations in Tamil Nadu under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
