MSMEs hope for more opportunities as Trichy-Nagapattinam agro-industrial corridor gets Rs 1,000 crore
The allocation of 1,000 crore to the Trichy-Nagapattinam agro-industrial corridor in the agriculturebudgettabled has revived the project that was dormant for two years.
While the allocation will be utilised to create and support systems for Growth of <a href="https://exam.pscnotes.com/Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and food industries in five central districts, Sidco too has a separate plan to create new industrial estates in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts with special focus on Food Processing sector.
The corridor will primarily focus on encouraging value-added products from food and Cash Crops and promulgating farmers organisations to make a foray into food processing sector to consider export opportunities. Fetching lucrative procurement prices for farmers and EMPLOYMENT generation are key objectives of the corridor.
The Vandampalai industrial estate and Palayapatti industrial estate in Thanjavur district will play a crucial role in the proposed agro-industrial corridor.
The corridor was first proposed in 2021 for Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts. Fund allocation has come in the backdrop of FaMe TN (Facilitating MSMEs in Tamil Nadu) completing the detailed project report for the corridor in consultation with MSMEs and stakeholders. The corridor will develop a connectivity map by linking the Trichy international airport and key RAILWAY stations.

Vibrant Village Programme to be Implemented for Border States

The scheme will cover four states and one Union Territory for financial years 2022-23 to 2025-26.
The Cabinet also gave approval for establishing 2 lakhs of multipurpose primary <a href="https://exam.pscnotes.com/Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture credit societies, along with Dairy and fishery cooperatives in the next five years at a cost price of Rs 20 lakh crores.
The second of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water boats (ASW SWC) built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, INS Androth, was launched.
These 77-meter-long, 25-knot-capable vessels were made specifically for minelaying, low-intensity maritime operations and anti-submarine operations in coastal areas.
Lok Sabha passes budget for Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir
Lok Sabha passed a Rs 1.118 lakh crore budget for financial year 2023-24 for the , amid ruckus by the Opposition over a demand for a JPC probe into the Adani issue.
The budget for Jammu and Kashmir was passed by a voice vote amid din.

According to the reports, the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) Rae Bareli has given a new name to the hockey stadium which is Ranis Girls Hockey Turf.
Sri Lanka receives first tranche of IMF bailout
Sri Lanka has received the first tranche of anIMF bailoutprogramme, PresidentRanil Wickremesinghetold parliament.
The crisis-ridden island nation was scheduled to receive a $330 million tranche, the first part of a nearly $3 billion bailout approved by the (IMF).
The IMF bailout is expected to catalyse additional support to the tune of $3.75 billion from the likes of the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other lenders. It clears the way for Sri Lanka to rework a substantial part of its $84 billion worth of Public Debt.
This was the 17thIMF bailout for Sri Lankaand the third since the country’s decades-long civil war ended in 2009.

Crisis-hit only a month after the Indian multinational conglomerates crashed as a result of the negative report on the Group by American short-seller Hindenburg, Sri Lanka has accepted a $442 million wind power project of Adani Green Energy.
The projects of the Adani Group caused controversy in Sri Lanka last year, with government critics questioning the openness and due procedure used to approve the projects.
